Steven Raga, a second generation Fil-Am who has spent much of his adult life as a well-known community leader and activist, is now shifting his focus to public service. “I’m running for Queens County Democratic Committee,” he said in an email interview with Fil-Am Who’s Who. “I plan on moving away from Filipino community leadership to public service to work with the greater minority population.”
The transition from community activism to public service had its challenges, but the ride has been made easier with the support of friends and the community.
“It’s been a very familiar, but altogether new experience. My background in community organizing makes the process and framing easier. But as both sectors require extensive relationship building to create sufficient results, it’s basically starting from scratch”
